Advice

I love giving people unsolicited advice. Back in 1995 I wrote up a number of essays on cycling topics aimed at beginners; at the time people were still trying to figure out how to pronounce “WWW” and there wasn’t much content out there. Since then, a number of great sites with cycling advice have come online, notably the late, lamented Sheldon Brown’s. But I thought I’d update and post a couple of those pieces which are still relevant.

  • Cadence–why beginners usually spin the pedals too slowly.
  • Gearing–what does it mean for a bike to have “27 speeds”?
